13th Annual Safety Day Event!

We have just completed our 13th annual "Safety Day Event". It was a great honor for all of us at Team Con Paulos to participate again this year in helping to protect the children within our community. We look forward to this continued community project each year with great anticipation. Many local businesses, civic groups, volunteer organizations and people throughout our community have come together to bring relevant safety issues to the forefront of our children. They have an opportunity to learn about these issues in a fun, family oriented way.

Our local Fire Department was on hand recruiting new volunteers. These kids are having a great time learning how to stay alive in the event that they are trapped inside a burning structure. These are lessons that could help keep them safe in the event of an emergency. A great big THANK YOU goes out to all of the firemen who participated in this year’s event! The Jerome Rural Fire Department was in attendance along with several of their fire trucks. The kids had an opportunity to get in them and play a little; the view from the cabs of these trucks is pretty special when you're a kid. They also had a chance to see and tour the Jerome County Disaster Services vehicles.

The BLM was here with one of their BLM fire trucks and taught the kids about forest fire prevention along with their favorite mascot; Smokey Bear. He is always a big hit with the kids and a great ambassador to the public bringing forest fire prevention to all of us in ways that truly change our forests for the better.

The Jerome County Paramedics brought one of their ambulances and gave the kids a chance to tour the vehicle and talk to the paramedics. The Jerome County Search & Rescue brought along their boat and RV so the kids could tour these as well. The Jerome County Sheriff’s department came along with their k-9 search and rescue dogs Buddy & Tank; wow, what a hit with the kids.

The Jerome County Sheriff’s department was also busy inside completing Child ID Kits and fingerprinting the kids. The Child ID Kits were donated by Modern Woodsman who also had a booth providing information about their company.

Another of the kid’s favorite activities is the Bicycle Rodeo conducted by the Jerome City Police Department. The kids are taught bicycle safety, control and rules. These folks were busy all day and looked as if they enjoyed it from setup to close. Hard to not have a great time when the kids are enjoying themselves so much.

Safe Kids again set up in our service drive and did free car seat checks. They were aided by the Idaho State Police along with the Jerome Police department. Brett Thompson donated several car seats for those in our community that were in need; thank you all for helping keep our children safe.

The Girl Scouts were here passing out information to future members; no cookies for sale here but they will be around later this year with their Samoas… Don’t forget to support these girls! Girl Scouts is a great opportunity for them to learn life lessons early on that last a lifetime.

Idaho Operation Lifesaver was here teaching the kids about how to stay safe around trains and railroad safety.  The American Red Cross provided information relating to their Health and Safety Program. St. Benedict’s Family handed out information relating to preventative health issues. State Farm Insurance was also here with information about their company and Idaho Power donated their time to instruct our kids about household and power line electrical safety.

The Northside Bus Company came along with one of their school busses and let the younger kids who have not had an opportunity to ride a bus get a little acquainted with how it feels to be on the bus along with learning the safety rules for getting into and riding the busses.

The Jerome Recreation District brought their swimming pool (Not the big one) over and taught the kids water safety. The Times News was also handing out newspapers along with bags of candy for the kids. The Northside Headstart program handed out nutritional information.

One of the kid’s favorite contributors to our annual event is the St. Luke’s Life Flight helicopter and crew. Everybody watched as the helicopter arrived and landed at the Team Con Paulos dealership. They opened the helicopter up and let the kids have a look inside to get an idea what to expect if they are ever in need of this service. They departed at around 11:45 and all the kids got another chance to see and hear what the helicopter sounds like when it powers up to take off. Thanks again to the crew for sharing this experience with the kids.

Mix103 Radio was on the ground with a live remote. They also donated a bicycle and raffled it off along with a bicycle helmet. The Jerome School Districts Safe Routes to School along with the Jerome City Police department raffled an additional 5 bicycles and helmets that were donated by Starr Corporation. Boy did they make some happy kids.

And then there were the concessions. Pepsi-Cola donated beverages, cups and their concessions trailer from which we gave away 1200 hot dogs, donated by Falls Brand Meats. The cheese was donated by Glanbia Foods and the ice was donated by the Magic Valley Subways. Con Agra Foods donated the use of their “Everyday Is Fryday!” French fry booth along with all the French fries we could possibly eat. Between the Hotdog booth and the French fry booth was the most popular concessions with the kids; the cotton candy booth. The United Dairymen of Idaho and Meadow gold donated ice cream in cups and Wilson Bates donated the use of a freezer to keep it all from running away.

KMVT donated promotional items for our annual event for which we are greatly appreciative. Last but certainly not least we want to thank Western Waste Systems for the use of their porta potty’s and trash receptacles.

Thank you all!!!!!
